The only reason
to do an INTERVENTION
is LOVE! This
is the most important point
to keep in mind when you are deciding how to help your loved
one who is suffering from alcoholism or other form of addiction.
One of the most common and most powerful symptoms of the Disease
of Addiction is denial; an INTERVENTION
is designed to break through the denial and have the alcoholic
or addict agree to accept treatment whether the individual
is “ready” or not. Studies have shown
that people who enter treatment because of an intervention
are as successful as those who refer themselves to treatment.
Exploding the
myth: Every
Alcoholic or Addict must hit bottom! Most
of us have heard
this, and most people think that the alcoholic or addict must
lose everything to be ready ”for help. The purpose
of the INTERVENTION
is to “stop the bleeding,” or to prevent the individual
from losing any more than he or she already has. The
individual doesn't have to lose his or her family, doesn't
have to be ruined financially or professionally, doesn't have
to be thrown in jail, doesn't have to land in the hospital
or, worst, doesn't have to die from his or her disease!
An INTERVENTION
benefits everyone, not
just the alcoholic or addict. Everyone involved will
be educated about the Disease of Addiction and will learn
new ways of coping with the disease and with the afflicted
individual. INTERVENTIONS
save the lives of the afflicted and improve the lives of those
affected by the afflicted.
The key to a successful
INTERVENTION
is preparation. The most difficult part
of the INTERVENTION
is the decision to do the INTERVENTION;
the next most difficult is the preparation and anticipation.
Addiction
Intervention Solutions will guide you
through the entire Intervention process, from initial consultation
to post-intervention, while the individual is in treatment
and aftercare. It is critical to help the individual
get the treatment needed; it is just as important to help
them stay in treatment and to help them avoid and deal with
relapse.
Every INTERVENTION
is different and unique. An INTERVENTION
should be tailored to the individual, the participants, and
the circumstances. What should be consistent is the
respect for the individual; we are dealing with an individual
who is suffering from a disease and who needs treatment for
the disease. Just as a person suffering from a chronic
disease such as diabetes, hypertension, or cancer needs help
in fighting the disease, the alcoholic or addict needs treatment,
and he or she needs and deserves the love and respect without
judgment of those participating in the process.
