Marijuana
Use
Marijuana is a Central Nervous System depressant and is the most commonly abused illicit substance. Cannabis sativa is the naturally occurring
plant that produces a psychoactive entity knows as THC or
delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol. Related to hemp, the tips or
buds are harvested, dried and generally smoked. Ingestion
of marijuana is also effective. A sticky resin occurring on
the buds is harvested by hand to produce hashish, a very concentrated
and potent means of delivering THC. This drug impairs short-term memory and learning, the ability to focus attention, and coordination. It also increases heart rate, can harm the lungs, and can cause psychosis in those at risk.
